Fleas can be a major problem for dogs and dog owners.
Fleas can survive both indoors and outdoors throughout
the year, even in your home during the winter months.
Because just a few fleas can multiply quickly, it is important
to ensure your dog is continually protected to prevent future
infestations.
Why is it so important to prevent flea infestations?
Fleas can pose a significant threat to your pet’s health,
including the following conditions:
- Fleas can cause severe discomfort for dogs,
including scratching, chewing, biting and
restlessness.
- Fleas are the source of flea allergy dermatitis (FAD),
the most common veterinary skin condition in dogs.
- Severe infestations can cause anemia, especially in
puppies or debilitated adults.
- Fleas also can transmit tapeworm infection

The active ingredient in Comfortis, spinosad,
also is environmentally friendly. The introduction
of spinosad for use in agriculture led to a
Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge
Award in 1999 from the United States
Environmental Protection Agency.
With Comfortis, children can play with their
dog immediately after treatment, and there
is no transfer of the product to other pets by
contact. Because it is administered orally,
Comfortis also is a great choice for dogs
that swim or are bathed often, as well as
dogs with flea allergy dermatitis, a common
skin disease resulting from flea bites
A convenient answer is now available at
McMillan Veterinary Clinic. Comfortis
(spinosad), is the first FDA-approved,
chewable, beef-flavored tablet that kills fleas
and prevents flea infestations on dogs for a
full month.
